Hundreds of years ago, people very well might have been cross contaminated with disease from animals but lived and died in their villages not spreading the disease any farther. In today's world of globalization, and biotechnology, diseases like HIV were able to spread much further. First, it was the blood donation that help spread the disease, then it was the migration of people between tribes/countries that made HIV world wide.
