How did a TIME magazine article end up indexed by PubMed as a scientific paper?

I asked on Twitter:

How did a TIME magazine article end up indexed by PubMed as a scientific paper? http://bit.ly/NtClC and http://bit.ly/NB9F2

And here are the comments and answers:

Vinny AroraFutureDocs I have wondered that too...had seen @TIME in Medline before

Jenny Reiswigbmljenny Since 1998 PubMed has selectively indexed a number of consumer mags. They don't consider them scientific.

Dean Giustinigiustini How did TIME article get indexed in PubMed? http://bit.ly/NtClC Ves, these are 'out of scope', only in PubMed, not MEDLINE

Dean Giustinigiustini ...and, as pointed out, some consumer health cites are 'out of scope' AND indexed in MEDLINE

Thanks all for the replies and helping me out with this question.

  2. Lin,

Thank you for the explanatory link. I just found it a bit strange that the National Library of Medicine indexes (albeit selectively) a popular magazine...
